Foundation & Roots
The Philippine Nurses Association (PNA) was originally founded in Manila on September 2, 1922, by Anastacia Giron-Tupas. Over the decades, as thousands of Filipino healthcare professionals moved to the Middle East, the need grew for a dedicated regional platform in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
To unify and support these overseas nurses, the Philippine Nurses Association – Eastern Region Saudi Arabia (PNA-ERSA) was established as an official foreign chapter under PNA National, operating in coordination with the Philippine Embassy and the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC). Mary Jane Tupas served as the founding president of PNA-ERSA, leading the chapter's initial organization, chartering, and community mobilization across the Eastern Province.
Milestones
National Parent Organization Founded
Anastacia Giron-Tupas establishes the Filipino Nurses Association (now PNA) in Manila, creating the national groundwork for Filipino nursing standards worldwide.
PNA-ERSA Established
Mary Jane Tupas serves as Founding President during the formal chartering of PNA-ERSA, establishing dedicated committees for Education & Training, Research, and Community Outreach across Dammam, Khobar, Dhahran, Jubail, and Al Ahsa.
Modern Era & Institutional Growth
Expansion into continuous accredited CPD offerings, hybrid webinars, nursing research support, and strategic partnerships across Saudi healthcare sectors.
